Juror notes: A small but mighty scene that drew me in right away to investigate. A classic expression of what it is to paint plein air, the presence of a grand place can be felt through the energetic marks and brushwork that bring movement throughout. Good design and a feeling of immediacy that sweeps you over the field up to the clouds and back down the river. A pop of orange underpainting adds just enough punch to balance out the greens and blues.
